    Meteorite?? Found in Florida

Please help. A friend of mine found this today. He is in the Orlando area. He asked me and I am stumped.. Found in a cylindrical hole that the edges were pushed up. It looks very Ore-ish..haha. Approximate six 4" x 6" (note the patio pavers in the background.) He did not have a magnet or compass to test.
I will take better photos and measurements tomorrow. Is there a local geologist in the Orlando area that could look at it??

    Thanks
    DB

When I stand across the room and squint my eyes it looks very much like a chunk of bog ore (aka bog iron). Naturally occurring iron ore (terrestrial).

    Thanks for you answer...

Sorry the pictures were so large. He just downloaded and sent me the the picture when he found it from his phone. Is this Bog Iron native to Florida?

It is common in bogs and sawmps, and I would say Florida has them.

This was man’s first iron ore used for thousands of years before America was settled. It is an impure hydrous-oxide of iron that precipitates from iron rich ground water upon entering anoxic bogs.

We have a section just for meteorites. I would post it there. http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/board,27.0.html

There have only been 4 meteorites found in Florida. http://www.meteoritestudies.com/protected_EUSTIS.HTM

    Welcome to TN.
I live in a state of rules where I am not permitted to live on my own country land because my home is not 130 MPH rated! I can only visit it from time to time and pay the fines.  I feel so safe with Big Government protecting me. In some states its illegal to collect rainwater.

From the small pic, it looks like a Mammoth Tooth! The others are so big and the auto focus is on the pavers.
