    Help needed to identify button

    This button was dug in Carlisle, PA in an area where I have found several Civil War items. The top of the button has an eagle holding arrows, the middle has the letters "U S" and at the bottom is a chain circle.
    The back is marked "United States". Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Your button is a US Army "Great-Coat" button. It was manufactured from 1820 to 1839.
