Chinese coin, any info?
Wondering if anyone out there knows the age or value? Found at a homesite from early 1900's. Pretty worn and about the size of a penny. Thanks

Re: Chinese coin, any info?
This is indeed a Chinese Cash coin, dated 1821. It is unfortunately one of the most popular (read most made) cash coins, and even in XF condition fetches only about $1. There are numerous varieties to the lines on the back, and it tells you where in China the coin was made. Unfortunatly the scan is not good enough to discern this though. Sizes for these coins vary a lot too, anywhere from 17.2 mm to 27.8 mm. Hope this helps!

Good call, Jadish!
Cash of Hsuan Tsung (Tao Kuang), c. 1821-51.
The mintmark is illegible but appears to be either Board of Revenue (top photo) or Board of Public Works (bottom photo).

Re: Chinese coin, any info?
I've read and heard that the hole in the center of such coins was for stringing them onto a person's clothing. They didn't have pockets, so to carry their coins thay had to tie them onto their clothing in strings (and on strings).
