Wasn't implying that you were spending money from the evidence locker....Just wanting to make sure you understood that....Was implying that someone spent money from an evidence locker allowing that bill back into circulation.
The mylar strip is present and marked usa 5, and three "5" watermarks are present, everything else looks correct to me, if it's a fake..i'm fooled.

pretty cool find
Not sure why the cops would stamp the bill -bogus?
perhaps you need to look harder at the bill, counterfit?
if it was a bogus bill it would have been turned over to the secret service.
perhaps it has drug residue on it - coke?
It could be needed in a drug case
I don't think this would be of any value to you
You might be in big trouble being in position of this bill, \
I would contract the Birmingham AL police
I'm sure you could sell this bill with out getting busted
let us know what you do with this.

There was a similar situation in NY City where some $1.00 Bills re-circulated. The Police mark the bills as evidence. After a case is over, the money is supposed to be shipped to the Federal Reserve Bank for replacement as the Feds replace damaged currency or currency marked in this way. Occasionally, some is either not returned properly or in more rare instances, the feds accidentally re-issue the bill(s).
Its got to be worth more than 5 bucks on eBay. How much more, I dont know. I would contact Birmingham with a picture maybe but they may try to pressure you to confiscate it. They probably left a trail of bills all the way to NY lol.
I live in a state of rules where I am not permitted to live on my own country land because my home is not 130 MPH rated! I can only visit it from time to time and pay the fines. I feel so safe with Big Government protecting me. In some states its illegal to collect rainwater.
FYI not all evidence marked money is counterfeit, the money could be from any crime at all, from drug money to murder etc, you just don't know.
The big question is, did this one slipped through the cracks? Or is this a case of someone taking money from the evidence locker and spending it? Or something else, seeing that the case number isn't marked on the bill in the spot provided, along with the other block that I can't read (EMP.....)?
I agree with mike--it is not necessarily bogus. Could be in a pimp's pocket when he was busted. One thing for sure: You take it anywhere and they are going to take it without compensation. Keep it for a collection or spend it now. You have a better chance. I had a couple of 20s that the bank took with no change back. Fortunately, it was a bank that gave them to me and I knew the tellers well and they reimbursed me. Only because I susupect they found another bad one somewhere.
