    Mysterious Medieval Armor?

I'm trying to figure out where this mysterious artefact comes from and, well, what the heck it is!? It looks like a belt but its shape seems to be more like that of a horse's harness. There is a number carved on the lock. It could be a date or a model number? 1794.

If ANYONE has any idea what this thing is, please contact me!

it's not a chastity belt. the lock is on the side of the "belt" as opposed to the front. it's not a slave belt neither since there is nowhere to tie the hands. and why would it be so decorative? I'm completely stumped

    Re: Mysterious Medieval Armor?

There is a cylinder on one end of the belt with a circular opening at the tip and a thin vertical slot on the end facing the links of the belt. On the inside of the cylinder, there is another opening where the thin metal oval part (the one that is balanced on my finger) can be inserted inside the cylinder. The "belt" is missing its locking mechanism. There was probably something that was inserted through the hole on the circular tip of the cylinder... I'm not even sure. Here's a picture of the cylinder I'm referring to, which has the date and some kind of a makers mark stamped next to it.

    Re: Mysterious Medieval Armor?

Maybe its some kind of Arabian style collar for either a small horse or pony, but is missing the fancy, decorative pieces that would have hung from the little brackets. The shape of it suggest the narrower part for the top of the neck, and the wider part for the breast. (But I'm not sure what a horse's or pony's neck measures)

I'm going to search for some "Pony Ride" pictures and see if that produces anything.

    Re: Mysterious Medieval Armor?

The picture below is described as a "Pony Harness," which I realize is different than the item in question, but I'm showing it anyway because it has 'similar' looking hardware. But most important, it says it measures "18 inches." So I am assuming that 18" may be a standard size for pony harnesses, (give or take).

I'm still somewhat convinced the item is a pony type harness because of the narrow part on one end and the wider part on the other. Surely a sword belt, or any type of belt, would not be designed like that. Plus, a 14" belt would be small even for a child.

What befuddles me most is the item in question is "all metal." Weird!

    Anyhoo ... the search continues.

    [ Pony Harness ~ 18 inches ]

( But it didn't say if the measurement was overall or just length )

    Re: Mysterious Medieval Armor?

    Correction ...

I missed it earlier and re-read where it says the item is 14 inches "Long." Which changes things for me somewhat, because that could easly translate to 30 inches or more in overall circumference.

    Buck ~

What is the exact overall circumference measurement? And is the end where your finger is holding it a tighter fit (smaller curve) than the other end? Maybe a picture of it straight on would help illustrate the curves.

    Thanks.

    Re: Mysterious Medieval Armor?

buckp, when i first saw the thing,i thought of the deco collars, used on the carousel
horses ride from the carnival,IIRC,those were connected to the horse,by a pin/latch
in a couple of places on the neck of the horse,i think SB is on the right track, with the
carousel ride idea,oh ya i think it would be from a 50s-60s model carousel ride
