found at colonial homesite...fragment of a brooch? pin? decorative piece

found in an area where a town once was which had the history of having a market as well. There has been several skirmishes involving tories, whigs, and indians.....the town was later abandoned after the rev war and was not occupied till late 19th century....ive found many musket balls, cooking ware, pottery, and farming tools. the item in question was broken off from a larger item (i searched the area for an hour for the rest of the piece-no luck)..... where it connected to another piece it seems to have a pin hole for securement? not sure of material.possibly brass..maybe a womans brooch?

To me this looks like the top part of a torch, I made a composite image to show what I mean.

Maybe part of a decorative relief wall-mount or something similar?

VERY cool yax....my hunting partner had the same idea as you...in this era 'liberty' was a major deal in the southern states and that torch was seen in different relics ive researched-and with the revolution in the colonists backyards, that makes alot of sense. ..this item was found within 300 yards from a fully operational rev war fort as well...hmmm, if i could only find another piece of it...one more inch of the object could explain so much.it almost seems like its just a small extension from a larger piece with the way the connection point is.....\.thats a great stab at it for sure! thanx yax 8)........cj
