    From a ROYAL MARINES COMMANDOS trench. Some idea?

    This button came from a trench of Royal Marines Commandos in Salerno battlefield but I think is not WWII age. Some idea

    Try looking at this page. I didn't see an exact match but your button is similar to late 1700's British Royal Navy Officer's button.

    Royal Navy Officers button, one-piece. Backmark Firmin, Strand. Measures 30mm dia.
    RN Capt/Commander - 1787 RN Lieutanant - 1787
    After this issue, Lieutenant will use same design as Captain's Button.
    In Use 1787-1795
