    strange object

    Found this on a Galveston Beach today. Not sure of the type of metal. It was pretty gunked up with sand build up kind of like pennys do. I assume it is copper with some zinc content.It is 4.26 inch wide and appears to be broken off at the bottom end. When it is wet I see some lettering that black but doesnt seem to spell any word I am familliar with. Any suggestions on this one?
    Hmm after posting this pic I more lettering I didnt see before.
