    Can u ID this button?

    dug yesterday in a field, everything I have dug here is dating around mid to early 1800's, thanks!

    here is a pic with backmark and a lil better pic in my hand

    That back mark was used by Scovill from 1850 - 1865 (some sources say it was used much later, but no later than 1902 when the button style changed).

    Big Cy will correct me if I'm wrong...

    that is pretty much the age of coins coming from this site, thank you..is it some sort of soldier button?

    Yes! U.S. Army Officer's "muffin-top" or "muffin-style" two piece button - once covered in gold gilt.

    Here is my take on your button. I believe it is a later one (1870-1902) for a few reasons. The shield on the front is raised and the wing tips point out instead of a more upward angle. And, I believe the backmark is impressed, large letters.
    Of course, this all goes out the window if it turns out the letters are the small variety and that would date the button from 1850-1870. But, the style of the eagle has me leaning towards the later time frame. Either way it's a nice find.
