I found this in East Texas. It was where an old homestead stood in the mid 1800's. I'm pretty sure it's a buckle from the civil war era. My question is, is this rare or a pretty common find? Any information you have on this item would be greatly appreciated!
It very well could be C.W. period or possibly Pre C.W.,there are several tongues that go with this wreath.When I get home I will give ya some further info on a few.Awesome find!!!

Probably from CW era, but I don't know how you would prove it was from the civil war. And by the way that is only half of the buckle. It was a two piece buckle. Be sure to search the area again very carefully and try to find the other half. Neat find! Monty

Most all of the State seal buckles of the C.W period use that wreath so as stated before there are many possibilities....also as said it may be Pre C.W. as well
