    Civil War Buckle?

I found this in East Texas. It was where an old homestead stood in the mid 1800's. I'm pretty sure it's a buckle from the civil war era. My question is, is this rare or a pretty common find? Any information you have on this item would be greatly appreciated!

Probably from CW era, but I don't know how you would prove it was from the civil war. And by the way that is only half of the buckle. It was a two piece buckle. Be sure to search the area again very carefully and try to find the other half. Neat find! Monty

    Re: Civil War Buckle?

Most all of the State seal buckles of the C.W period use that wreath so as stated before there are many possibilities....also as said it may be Pre C.W. as well

I found and sold one just like yours about 10-15 years ago and sold it to a dealer for $400.

Wasn't there just someone that found the tongue insert on a dig in Virginia? I don't know if it is a matched pair or not.
