    Oriental Medallion

    Hello,

This was found by a friend in Virginia. She asked me to post a photo of it here and ask if anyone might know what it is. I have requested more info on the size and weight, and will post it when I know it. In the meantime, here is the photo.

    Thank you,
    Anthony

I'm finding similar examples on line - all non-exact attributions, but all claim to be Arabic (writing) tokens.

    Hi,

These are hard to id, but here is a similar one I have with four holes.

Mine is a Budju from Mahmud II (Algiers). Mine is 21mm diameter (2.1 gr). I think they are silver.

    Good luck!

    Re: Oriental Medallion

The medallion measures 1 and 3/8 inches in diameter. To make matters more interesting, a second medallion was found by her friend this weekend in the same field. The details are identical, but the second one found is 7/8 inches in diameter.

its a arabic coin or copy of a arabic coin for a belly dancers outfit or for jewelry type wear

might have been a old gypsy type travelling fair type of event there long ago in the spot --where the local men folks would pay a dime or quarter to go into a tent to see the hoochee cootche dancer do her thing - (basically it was a strip tease show) -- see if you find other carny type items there.

True, & the most common use highlighted. They are a base metal often 'gold colour' plated.
