    What is this handle? from?

I found this up in a meadow that used to be cattle land, I believe.

It appears to be made from brass.

It is about 2 inches tall and the handle is approximately 2 inches wide. The opening is about one inch in diameter. It is hollow. There are no threads inside the base. But there are tabs that apparently were used to fix the handle to something.

The words on the handle read "PAT PEND"

Any ideas would be gratefully appreciated. It is as if I should know what this is but don't.

    Thanks - Laurie

I agree, it's a handle from an old brass pump sprayer. I have one at home. Mine is an early automotive fire extinguisher. Here's a link to one. http://www.benlevy.com/4images/img3455.htm

I'll agree with you on this, used mine yesterday on the cast iron hot water radiators in my home to bleed the air from the system.

Yes it is Fire extinguisher handle from Pyrene co. They were fitted in the cab of Royal Air Force vans etc. but were banned several years ago due to the Carbontetrachloride content turning into a poisonus gas when sprayed on fires, (if the fire didn't get you the gas did) John.

    Great ID!
I live in a state of rules where I am not permitted to live on my own country land because my home is not 130 MPH rated! I can only visit it from time to time and pay the fines.  I feel so safe with Big Government protecting me. In some states its illegal to collect rainwater.

TN Gizmo, you win the kewpie doll! It is indeed a handle from a fire extinguisher - Thanks so much

And MCB66, Lonestar, DC Matt and John Hutchison, you are so right it does appear to be from a Pyrene fire extinguisher. Well done and thank you.

From what I have been able to find out, it appears because of the "Pat Pend" to be a vintage WWII era handle.

    You all rock my world.

Man I love metal detecting - not only is it fun to detect but you can learn so much about history and how life was lived before - this is the best hobby in the world

    Thanks again everyone
