Civil War battlefield finds - Revised with measurements

I found these three items in a cotton field (owner's permission, of course) that was part of a battlefield. The hooked item I've seen before, but I just can't figure it out. The block is lead, and I'm wondering if it was used to make roundballs from. The other item may be fairly modern, but it does has a slight patina on it and is heavy brass...

Thanks for any help ya'll can give...

    Re: Civil War battlefield finds

Please read the instructions in the post at the top of the What-Is-It? forum -- http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.p...,259110.0.html -- and pay special attention to item #2.

Without knowing the size-measurements of your finds, all I can say is, the object in your first photo resembles a musket sling-hook, and the object in your third photo resembles a piece of a broken brass trigger-guard.

Re: Civil War battlefield finds - Revised with measurements

The first item is most certainly a musket sling hook. The last item, if the hole is counter-sunk on the other side at the break, could be a piece of an Enfield trigger guard or similar.

Thank you & Thank you... I think you are correct on the musket sling hook, I did a little looking at some of my books and that came the closest to what I could find, but in the pictures I had, I couldn't see the little tip.

The hole on the other side of the last item is counter-sunk, a friend said he thought it may be part of a trigger guard.

The lead square still has me thinking... I know the Confederates were molding a lot of their own bullets, so I wonder if this is a lead bar that they would use to make them.
