    Bullet Help

I feel like I have been posting on the "What is it" forum a lot. I have this small bullet. Well what I think is a bullet that I have no clue of the proper I.D. I took a couple pics of the bullet. Thanks for any help or suggestions.

    Re: Bullet Help

Certainly looks like a bullet to me, the problem is, someone seems to have stolen the numbers off of your micrometer. As near as I can get without seeing the measurement is to tell you it's going to be a rifle bullet, and in the neighborhood of .30 cal.

Thing is it looks like the cavity in the bottom is full of rust from the pic at least. Which has me thinking it might be an end cap of some kind as well.

What are the measurements? Can't tell from the picture. It really doesn't look much like a bullet. If it was a fired bullet it would have some rifling marks on the outside. If it was fired in a musket (that doesn't have rifling), it would most likely be of a larger caliber. I'm not sure just what it is? Monty

Good call on the rifling. I just noticed it seems to taper toward the base which is odd too.

Is that rust or red mud on the outside and inside? Are you sure it is lead? It's not saying bullet to me, but I'd like to see some pics of it out of the micrometer with the base cleaned out. Breezie

    Re: Bullet Help

Due to the deep cavity in its base being octagonal, I believe it is definitely not a bullet.

Looks like a tool handle file or maybe a lathe knife
