Early 1900s football Pin and late Victorian lady's belt buckle faceplate
I got these items in close proximity to each other. The items are stamped cooper? or some such alloy as the VDIs where near silver.
My feeling on the football it is 1880-1910 due to the shape of the ball, melon shaped. Looks to have been swung from a ribbon. So any ideas would be appreciated.

The football piece looks like a watch fob to me, too. Maybe it's similar to the one shown here and was originally attached to a leather strap ... which were likely of a thinner metal than the non-leather types.

Speaking of oldtime football stuff ... check out these links. With the knowledge you gain from the history link you will be able to impress your friends at this year's Super Bowl party.
Re: Age of the football thingy and the broch/hairpin
Celtex, Since your football is thin, stamped copper and has a long, narrow attachment, I think it would be on the end of a college/high school ribbon. It could have been an award ribbon, or school spirit ribbon similar to the one below.
As far as the copper rosette looking piece, I'd like to see a pic of the back before making an assessment. Are there any attachment places on the back?

Here's a High School pep pin that looks about right. The individual who posted the picture wasn't sure of the date, but "guessed" it was possibly from the early 1940s. However, this is unconfirmed as it could very well be older or newer than that.

The back does have a place where a "finger" may have been used to attach to clothing or hair. It is fairly wide was the reason I was going with hair. I'll get you a back shot.

I was going by the shape of the ball for my age guess. The melon shaped balls went out of favor as the forward pass became an intergral part of the game. So I am aging it in that transition period from 1880-1910 era of football.

The football did hang from a ribbion, I have found one similar. I have been told it would of had your name on it an, pinned to a players "lettermen" jacket/coat.
Cool stuff..

The back does have a place where a "tongue" may have been used to attach to clothing or hair. It is fairly wide was the reason I was going with hair. I'll get you a back shot.

Now that I've seen the back, I think it is a late Victorian lady's belt buckle faceplate. There should be some evidence of attachment opposite the latch. Breezie
