What is it Coin
I was detecting at a mid to early 19th century home today and came across this coin. It came in just like a wheat penny or any small copper coin would. It is a bit larger than an american penny and weighs nearly 3g.
It is also slightly thinner than a penny. It has a design on it but I can't pin it down. I tried a LED light on it but could get no other details from it. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: What is it Coin
Soak it in some olive oil...may take a while (Days) but might help you figure out what it is without harming the coin. Good luck.

Drop it in some peroxide thats been heated up in the microwave. That will remove a bunch of the crud on it

I was waiting to do that to see if anyone could figure it out before hand. I'll give it a little while and see if anyone can figure it out first

Re: What is it Coin
Based on its diameter, a trashed LH or Buff nickel comes to mind; possibly even a shield nickel.

Don.......
The diameter is correct for it, but it is made of copper.

Re: What is it Coin
And the 3g weight would quickly rule out a 5g nickel. The hunt continues.......

Re: What is it Coin
I tried boiling peroxide and the peroxide didn't even penetrate the coin. No fizzing or bubbles. Weird.

Re: What is it Coin
Put a piece of tin foil in a saucepan set the coin on it and fill it up with peroxide mixed with baking soda and boil for ten minutes...

Hate to be the one to say, but you will never get detail of a blank coin, but try what you like because there is no harming it.
