Weird handle thingy, monkey with a fan? & a really worn medal?

I found this weird handle looking thingy and dont know what it could even be... I think it is made of that early type plastic stuff, bakelite? Is that what it is called? I looks like bone but i know its not. Anyway it has what looks to me to be a monkey holding a fan. Weird. The site i got it from had its peak from 1880-1900. Also found this medal or medallion (sp?) Looks like it had writing all over it but it is so warn i can only mostly make out individual letters, and it has a picture of a building on the frount. Just hoping somone may recognize it...Thanks for looking!!!

It looks to say H. E. Stallard. no luck on Google though. The handle doohickey might be part oh a brush

Correct. It's a handle for a nail buffer. Maybe made of ivory or ivory pyralin (celluloid).



I think the token says "R.E. Stallard".

I agree the one item is an old nail buffer with an Asian motif. The one shown below is similar and made of sterling silver. A lot of the ones I looked at were made of "Tortoise Shell."

Hey thanks for the replies, and thanks for the ID on the nail buffer! After i posted i thought about it and really hope no one was offended that i thought it was a monkey, the face looks kinda "alien" to me, even for being oriental, that is why to me it looks like a monkey face. Now if i can just figure out what the medal is?

Search for a dept store or factory named "Stallard". I'm guessing it used to be a keyring.
