Button found, any info on it?

Hi All, found this button the other night and was wondering if anyone could help me out with info. All the other buttons found on this property were WWII era, but this one was about 4 inches deeper than them, so I"m hoping for something older this time!!

    thanks for any help

back is completely rotted away, so no idea what it looked like. Mine doesn't seem to have any stars and the ends aren't broken, so i think it is safe to say they were never there?! The one you found is the closest I have been able to find as well.

Wow I missed that one Matt. Its not the same button. It may also be civilian but needs a closer look. Jeff of PA nailed this one.

djm of PA your button is definitely an old civilian blazer button made in a Navy motiff. The rounded wings and anchor eye tell it apart. I would have guessed TOC (turn of the century) but CC Hunter reprimanded me on an earlier thread that rusted out iron back civilian buttons are always mid 20th century. CC is very knowlegable so Ill have to take his word for it. Iron backs have been around since at least the CW era but they do not rust out so easily he tells me.

I didnt realize it didnt have stars. No matter. Its positively without any shadow of a doubt a civilian blazer eagle with the rounded wings and visible large anchor eye. They have been around since the late 1800's and there are many different slight variations due to the fact that they were made by many different companies and still made today. I think the line is just a manufacturers error and I havent seen any with lettering yet.

They have been posted here many times before and if we had a database we wouldnt have to keep IDing the same items and hashing out the same old thing over and over again. Just search the database.

Re: Button found, any info on it?

Waterbury doesnt have the no star variety however it has the same funky eagle thats sold all over eBay for civilian fashion use. Often mis IDed as Navy(bottom 3 buttons) http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lot-8-Vintag...item35b106b2f0 The button you first found Jeff is close enough because there are many many varieties. This may be a new variety without stars. I cant find it.

Sorry to put in a push for a database on this thread but I think its a great idea for the future. It will take a lot of work originally but it will be a place where every metal detectorist in the Americas will commonly use to identify finds.
