Spoon from Boer war site
Hi guys,
Went metal detecting and found this old tea spoon which has silver marks on the back. I cannot read wht they say, but thought maybe someone who knows their marks will be able to help.

Thanks for any help with this problem, hope someone can see something.

Is it silver or brass? Maybe its an example of those fake or pseudo silver marks. http://www.worthpoint.com/blog-entry...ver-hall-marks
This isnt the best site but check here for any similar marks. http://www.shop4silver.co.uk/hallmark.htm
I live in a state of rules where I am not permitted to live on my own country land because my home is not 130 MPH rated! I can only visit it from time to time and pay the fines. I feel so safe with Big Government protecting me. In some states its illegal to collect rainwater.

Thanks guys, the spoon is made from what looks like copper that was silver plated. Not sure how old it is though as I do not think they had plating in the 1890's but may be wrong. I will check out those sites

According to my link, electroplating was perfected and patented by Henry and George Richard Elkington in 1840.
I think you have a cool fake silver marked spoon. http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.p...,358270.0.html http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.p...,228161.0.html

Umm, somehow think it could be a cheap fake spoon maybe it did belong to one of the soldiers.... The spoon looks like it may of been cast, then copper plated then silver plated. I will try and get clearer photos of the symbols.

Why do you think its copper plated? Its probably solid copper that was silver plated.

Re: Spoon from Boer war site
Looking closer, it seems like it was copper then silver plated.
The hallmarks are:
1) WP inside a diamond,
2) Large Gothic "C"
3) Maybe a Leopards Head
4) RP inside of a diamond
Don't know if this helps or not
