Maybe it hit a tree that had 242 carved in backwards?
I live in a state of rules where I am not permitted to live on my own country land because my home is not 130 MPH rated! I can only visit it from time to time and pay the fines. I feel so safe with Big Government protecting me. In some states its illegal to collect rainwater.

Re: Lead whatsit ??
Since it has a post, it looks like a CW musket 'nipple protector' that was stamped with the regiment number. Or either it was a stamped lead piece that was carved into a nipple protector. During camp boredom, soldiers would carved nipple protectors out of round balls and other bullets. Below is one I found last year. Neat find Breezie
Every time I watch Gone With The Wind, I think we're gonna win this time!

A nipple protector. Wow thats amazing. A little water down the nipple will ruin your day along with your gunpowder..
