    Familiar Looking Star thing...

When I dug this, I knew it looked familiar but I just can't place it.
Shriners or Eastern Star keeps coming to mind but those aren't right.
It appears to have attached to something.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

Thanks Cel, but I think it's a little big for an older earring. I was thinking maybe it hung on a badge ribbon or something for some fraternal group.
I think if the star were upside down it would be a pentagram. Ewww....
Here's some of the other things dug near it. Maybe that will help with a time frame.

I think I have seen this before on a website DiggerBug and I saved a pic of it. I just cant find the picture. I think it was claimed to be CW related.

There is a 7th corps and New Orleans star and crescent that is similar but I believe I have seen this..
I live in a state of rules where I am not permitted to live on my own country land because my home is not 130 MPH rated! I can only visit it from time to time and pay the fines.  I feel so safe with Big Government protecting me. In some states its illegal to collect rainwater.

Thanks BigCy and Pal for the pointers. It is like the 7th Corp but like Pal said, it's open at the top. The New Orleans badge is a little closer but the star is upside down.
Again, thanks for the info. I'll keep looking......

Hey L, Is it brass or tin? Is the only attachment at the top? Breezie

Yes, I think it's brass, (it's not magnetic). There's only one attachment at the top. I can wiggle the attachement piece like it was nail to something.

My best guesstimate would be some type of decoration, whether it be on a pocketbook closure strap, Christmas tree ornament, or just nailed to a fence. I don't think it is any type of jewelry (pendant/earrings) because it would have a ring loop through the hole instead of a nail type piece. I also don't think it is any type of child's toy badge because it would have 2 areas of attachment. The single attachment lets me know it was movable and probably movable for a purpose. If not, it would have at least 2 holes in it. It's a neat find, and hopefully we'll find a match. Breezie

I'm probably wrong, but in the second pic on the left star point, it actually looks to had a placement for a second attachment.
speaking of badge, the New Orleans police department started using the crescent with star badge back in 1855 the crescent represents the Mississippi river surrounding the city.

Bill, that's an interesting concept. I drew out what the badge would look like 'if' the little thingie in the 2nd pic was an attachment. Didn't the Nawleans Police badge have a break in their circle at the bottom? Breezie

For some reason this brings to mind the Grand Army of the Republic ribbon
