About the ONLY way this can be 100% authenticated is if it is in the hands of a professional. There are many many fakes out there...

Here are a few things you can look for to determine if it is genuine or fake:

Look to see if the disk is stamped and then applied. The originals were made this way. If yours is cast in, then it is a fake. Also look for sanding on the tongue; fake show sanding where the maker's mark was removed. Also check the patina to see if it has naturally aged or faked. Breezie

Here are some good links on buckles. http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.p...,211242.0.html
I live in a state of rules where I am not permitted to live on my own country land because my home is not 130 MPH rated! I can only visit it from time to time and pay the fines.  I feel so safe with Big Government protecting me. In some states its illegal to collect rainwater.

No offense intended, but that information is definitely incorrect.

SOME original tongue-and-wreath buckle discs were stamped and then applied, and some others were solid-cast as an integral part of the buckle's "tongue" section. Various books on original civil war buckles show both of types of construction. In particular, to see original CS tongue-and-wreath buckles, check the photos in "Confederate Buckles & Plates" by Steve E. Mullinax.

Sldo, check the Reproduction copies of original CS tongue-and-wreath buckles at the Hanover Brass Foundry's website. HBF's CS tongue-and-wreath buckles are sand-cast copies from molds made by using Original specimens. http://hanoverbrass.com/

To see HBF's reproduction CS tongue-and-wreath buckles, go to:
    http://hanoverbrass.com/more.htm

    For Tnrelicman:
Actually, professionally-cast reproductions made by using an Original one to create the casting-mold are the big problem for civil war buckle collectors. It's not very difficult for a faker to put an authentic-looking "old" patina on those excellent quality reproduction buckles. That is why the advice given to you by Kieth-Tx ("About the ONLY way this can be 100% authenticated is if it is in the hands of a professional") is what you must do. Literally put it in the hands of a professional. Photographs are not sufficient. That is why I will make no comment on your CS buckle's authenticity, or lack of it. But I can recommend some trustworthy top-level experts on authenticating CS buckles. Send me a Private message telling me where you live. Nt your street-adress, just the town and state.)

Seller says: HERE IS A.CS TWO PART BUCKLE SOLD AS IS YOU BE THE JUDGE I AM NO EXPERT ON THIS STUFF.

Because he says he doesnt know and is being sold "as is" with no warranty, I would have to assume its not authentic. That is the way I would look at it.

Yeah, yeah Kuger pile on after TCG cut-off my legs! LOL I should have been more specific and said, 'look to see if a maker's mark had been sanded off.' All of the 2pc. wreaths I've seen, the disk was stamped, then applied. I love learning something new. Breezie

LOL Breezie Looks as if everyone's gangin up on you.... I just had to insert something in here as well. I've seen many counterfeit coins that were "aged" to look authentic. I've actually bought some Chinese and Korean coins that turned out to be quite good fakes. Keeping this in mind, how hard would it be to find authentically aged counterfeit buckles?

"authentically aged counterfeit buckles?" if your asking if its easy to apply patina to counterfeits,I dunno, never done it,but I do know with the use of certain chemicals and the fact the internet is lousy with them,I am assuming its not hard
