    Brass canister "Flashlight"

    Hello all,
I have a brass canister here with a threaded lid that says “Flashlight” as far as I can tell. The “F” is not readable. Its 10 inches long not counting the lid and 3 inches wide. The side has been soldered together. Seems like a flashlight would certainly fit in here. My question is why would you need this, and where would this of been used? Military? Industrial Plant? Any idea of age?

Maybe a tube for storing a flashlight on a ship, waterproof and accessible.

Possibly as above...a protected emergency flashlight case - ship, train, military plane,mineshaft....anywhere a flash light might be needed (undamaged)in an emergency really.

Possible gun powder flare caps canister. They were used to store flares and caps from gunpowder since the tops are non-sparking. They can also be sunk into concrete so that you can store valuables such as Jewelry, Money, and Paper. They are unobtrusive and if placed in a concrete floor or wall would be fireproof.

I can see where an O-ring would fit on the top, making it watertight.
