Copper round.

Hi All,

I have been searching a field in Michigan that seems to have some history in the early 19th century. I have extracted a couple coins, the oldest an LC dating 1828. During my search I unearthed this copper/bronze round that I'm pretty sure is a coin or token. Maybe I'm just hopeful, but the area I'm searching is very clean aside from the relics and coins I've unearthed.

The object is 33mm at its greatest diameter and weighs 9.3 grams.
I can't see any recognizable patterns on either side but have been amazed what the experts here have been able to identify. I've spent hours on the web and only come up with the UK copper penny and 1797 cartwheel penny. They weigh 18.8g and 28.3g respectively. I'm not so sure either is a match.

Could it be a large cent? I circled what I think is the letter C or is it my eye playing a trick on me ? HH

I appreciate your comments but I'm not so sure its an LC. Thats why I used the LC for size comparison. The copper is 4mm larger in dia. than an LC at its greatest point and seems a bit thicker at its thickest point. I know the corrosion can cause build up and make it seem thicker, but not a diameter increase. Especially when it was probably larger than 33mm in its original form.

If it lost half of its mass, that would put it originally at 18.6 grams. That matches the UK copper penny somewhat, but then we should see a diameter decrease also and the UK penny is 33mm dia.
I think its a lot older.
