    Coin...old penny???

    Hi all! Sorry am totally new to this and no clue what to do when you get a coin in this bad of shape. I think?? I see a 1 and then on the other side with a magnify lens I may work out the word cent but ? Any thoughts? Click image for larger version.

    Soak it in olive oil for a long time, when it turns green use old toothbrushes slowly.

    soak it in peroxide with some brushing and possibly know what it is today!

    Ok I know it is an Indian Head penny now...just need to get it a little clearer in the date department........

    ** Edit** going ahead and entering as solved even tho don't have the full picture =) at least I know what it is now! Yay peroxide!

    I could even tell by the original photo.
    1/100 of an American dollar is a cent. It is NOT a penny. The word penny is used by several other countries, such as Great Britain, to denote their smallest denomination. In order to be numismatically correct, you must use the term cent to describe the American coin.
