Thats a wedge from a muzzleloading rifle. It holds the barrel to the wood stock. Some rifles have 2. Cool find. http://oldsouthfirearms.com/muzzlelo...rrelwedge.aspx

1/100 of an American dollar is a cent. It is NOT a penny. The word penny is used by several other countries, such as Great Britain, to denote their smallest denomination. In order to be numismatically correct, you must use the term cent to describe the American coin.

I agree. The possibility exists that it could be from a modern replica used by modern hunters during primitive hunts. I would like to think its old but it may depend on other items found and the dateline of other items.

What it is made of? The barrel wedge in my rifle is steel, and it rings up as iron..... yeah I'm bored so I just tried it.
