Small heavy piece from 1937?
I found this today at a garage sale for $1 today, but I'm not quite sure what it is. It is a silver color and the only marking are "Paid on Jan 11 1937" it might say 1927, its hard to make it out. the top section that is secured by a flat head screw comes off, but there is not anything underneath it. it is just over an inch tall and quite heavy. anyone have an idea?

Is it about the diameter of a quarter? Hard to judge the size.
My first thought was "pattern weight" used in sewing.
DCMatt
BTW - It probably says Patd which is short for Patented.
While I have aimed in my postings to be irenic and conciliatory, rather than polemic, I have yet endeavored to set forth the
truth, let it favor or impugn whom it might. Any notice of misrepresentations or mistakes occurring in these prose will be most thankfully received
by the author.

So does it now say "PATD on Jan 11 1937?"
Dear Lord, lest I continue in my complacent ways, help me to remember that someone died for me today. And if there be war, help me to remember to ask and to answer "am I worth dying for?" - Eleanor Roosevelt

A man too proud to pick up a penny is a man who has never been hungry...
Could it be the weighted plug for the top of a pressure cooker-steamer? Best of luck, Sub

Are you sure there is the word on? The photo is hard to see but it looks like PATD JAN 11, 1927.

I believe it is a top handle for some type of dinner ware.
I dismantled some sterling objects, damaged, did have larger objects similar to this one...
"Fortune is guiding our affairs better than we ourselves could have wished. Do you see over yonder, friend Sancho, thirty or forty hulking giants? I intend to do battle with them and slay them. With their spoils we shall begin to be rich for this is a righteous war and the removal of so foul a brood from off the face of the earth is a service God will bless."
