On those you can read, research available. Found a couple this year ,1935 or earlier easy to read. Different places where today shotguns legal but not where i would shoot. You seem to have an oldie, some people save /collect as they find them. Good pics. H.H.
Hey , I.don,t have all the answers but sometimes coffee tastes better over an open fire.

would olive oil help clean this up or is there a better way to get the grime off?

In the cleaning and restoration area of this forum are some ideas. I do more harm than good usually. After gentle dish soap and water on headstamp area if no detail available then it could be wetted with olive oil. Oil is slow but less aggressive. I wouldn,t soak whole brass as oil would be leaching out from inside a very long time. May have to wet daily till crud softens and can be gently removed with a tooth pick. Good luck!

When the going gets wierd, the wierd turn pro....
I just have to ask.... Where is it that she lives and shotguns are not legal? I've never heard of such a thing....
"That's me, on the beach side combing the sand, metal meter in my hand, sporting a pocket full of change"...... NOFX

I don't see a primer in the pics. Is the inside filled with paper? It might be a cap or lid.

I can see it in person, not so much in the image. But even in person it is hard to make out, its is covered in a lot of grime that doesn't want to be removed.

OK because it otherwise looks like a shotgun shell. It can be dated by the headstamp. I suggest soaking it in water and use a toothbrush.
I dont think shotguns are illegal anywhere in the US. Maybe you mean that hunting or shooting is not allowed within city limits. The shotgun shell could be from the early 20th century when hunting was still allowed in your community..

When I find one, I just throw it in my tumbler with a load of pennies. Cleans up real nice.

I'm still waiting to find out where shotguns are not legal to own.
