Howdy All. Found this tonight at a school built in the 1900's and used through the 1960's. I am really stumped on the use and age of this thing. It looks like some sort of handle with a star washer that can be tightened to interfere with holes on the handle....weird. LMK if you have any ideas on this thing. Thanks and good luck to all. C9

PS It is iron and seems to have bubbled-up coating on it...not sure if I should try to wire it off??

By adjustment of the T handle, the "star washer" appears to provide a variable amount of compressive force between the two halves such that the force necessary to rotate one bar can be adjusted.

Got it. It's a lockable windshield hinge from an old Jeep. One of the arms is broken off, but I found some pics.

Wow! Thanks NOLA_Ken you are spot on with your ID! I was hoping for something older but still a very odd looking piece. There are parts of an old boxy looking vehicle mostly buried about 50-FT away, I bet it was a jeep. Thanks again and HH. C9

Well it's fairly old anyway, probably 1940's. I know that style was used by Willy's from my searching. It's still a pretty neat item, and yeah look at the buried vehicle, if it's a jeep it'll have vin tags that will help you date it.
