    1812 era Infantry Button Questions

    Hi All,
Am hoping someone can tell me some more about this variety,
it is the first I've dug of this design, (it's a 20mm)
and I cannot find any information on it...
as I have recovered three of the usual type and only one of these, and the lack of online info,
I'm thinking it may be somewhat of a rarity
Also, it seems these Script I's are a different alloy (high lead?) than other pewter buttons of the
same general timeline, Rev era British, and US Regimentals show typical pewter blistering and flaking while these do not, any information would be greatly appreciated !!

First pic is the new variety, then the previously found type.
    Here's my story,

I just had the most excitement I've experienced in a while

My first signal today, (after the iron I pull this pewter button,
I've got three star in ovals so far, and I see this one is quite different...
done a lot of research on early US military buttons and I had NEVER seen one like this.
Excitement continues while I browse the Leigh and Ridgeway button sites, none there !!
Well, eventually I found one on another site...
I can still say it was a great day! a New variety of 1812 Infantry for my display,

First pic is the button I dug today, after that is a comparison pic of the other style.
Apparently the Military Buttons used a higher lead alloy, the don't blister like the civvies.

I'll take an old military button over a silver coin on most days, of course cobs don't count...

Thanks for looking and HH Everyone! Herbie.

Those are nothing, came out of a cracker jack box. Send it to me and I will see that it is disposed of properly. Ok, so you are not buying my lie. Guess I have to give you the truth. It is an 1812-1815 one piece cast pewter infantry button. A relative rarity of 15. Definitely a very nice find. Congrads.

    Thanks Duggap!
You did get me thinking for a second I am pretty new to this
the later date may explain the 3 to 1 ratio, fewer infantry buttons needed after the war...
The other type was 1808-1812 I believe...

Creskol, Great to hear from you! Thanks for the Alberts listing, I Really need to get that book,
Tice is great for CW, but there's not much there on the earlies...
Green Check Here! Thanks again & HH to you! Herbie
