found in the surf
This interesting item washed up the other day. It's just under 7" long and very heavy for its size. Also, a magnet will not attract to it.

Why don't you do some home electrolysis on it and see what it is?

Belaying pin is probably what you are thinking of. I looked at many photos of them on the Internet just now. There are many styles, so this mystery item could be one.
It is really crusty whatever it is.
