    Flat button looking whatzit? (Copper??)

Here is one that has me and my friends stumped. When I dug it I though it was a large flat button cause I initially saw the top. However, when I turned it over I discovered the round ridge with crevas in the middle. I think it is made out of copper and hammered flat around the edges. It is too imperfect to be machined. Found in a field near Brandy Station, Va. On a farm rich with pre and post civil War history.

    Thoughts??

Hi Dean and my fellow TH'ers

My first thought is a counterfitters mould. Can you see if there is any markings inside the hollowed out area? I found something similar and it turned out to be a counterfitters mould for an English 1730's half penny. I found mine near Sterling, VA. I have searched around Brandy Station, great area. Congratulations on your find!
