    Civil Warr item

This is an item I found under a tree that I have been hunting under for a couple years now. Seems every time I go back there, I find something new. Does anyone know what this is? It has 'TEN' stamped in it with something crossing above it and it looks like a crown above the crossed area. Thanks for looking..

I believe the letters are "PATENT" and the crown with crossed keys are a makers mark. Probably a British padlock.

Yep, the guys are right. It is a key hole cover with the word "patent" on it. Kugar and diggummup both nailed it!

I am not totally clear on the country of origin of those marked with a Crown...VR(Vic Regina),etc.I guess its highly likely, but by far and above those are the most commonly found locks I see in mid 19th Cent sites

Yes they did, I've found quite a few. This is the only whole one I've found (will be undergoing preservation very soon)
