    Scratching My Head

I dug this on a colonial tavern site where Buckleboy and i dig all the Spanish silver coins. This one has us stumped. It is made of brass. The round disc shaped part is exactly the size of a nickel. It's right at about 3 inches long and has a "tit" on the end shown in the picture. thanks for any guesses and lets get this thing solved! Cheers, Shanegalang- The Cane Field Bandits of Southern Louisiana :)

It appears to be a old coat holder. Any mark on the back where possibly a screw was and broken off?

Is there a type of notch on the outside (back side) of the "tit"?

I think what you have is a Colonial Brass offset Stirrup piece. The "Tit" is where the crossbar for the leather was, and the bottom is missing the foot mount. Stirrups back then were not as big or fancy as they are today. My best guess my friend.
