    I know what it is just wondering how old, rifleman button

    Early 1800's rifleman's button and a very nice one. I don't have a ton if info on them but they date to the 1812 war

    I find your button in Alberts book but he doesn't put a date on it that I found. In Tice's book he states they were made in England in the 1820s.

    Your button is shown in the Albert button-book as button RF-27A, a State Militia rifleman's button (not US Army issued). It dates from the 1810s through 1820s. Made in Britain and imported into the US.

    After-posting edit note: A phonecall interrupted me while I was typing my reply, so I didn't see Duggap's answer until after I posted mine... but our answers are in agreement.

    Are those buttons yours? I found one with the eagle carved out of it too. It came from the Hagerstown, Md. area many years ago.

    Yes they are ones I found. I don't think it's from carving I believe it is caused from the edge around the eagle being thin from the stamping process. And that causes it to fall out

    I agree, I found a Confederate script A that had the A out of it just like your eagle.
