    Dental Tool

Found this in the yard of a boarding house in South Carolina built in 1880. I can't find anything on it. Any ideas? One side lifts up and down and has an adjustment screw to adjust how far it closes I also found the cole emblem, just wanted to share that as well.

Personally, it looks like something that would keep the mouth open in place. But I'm not an expert at dental products. Good find man!

Just found something. I think it might be a dental articulator for setting up dentures.

I believe what you have there was a part on a Cole automobile. Cole manufacturing Co. cars were made in Indianopolis Ia. They made cars from 1908-1925, and are considered the pioneer of the V-8 engine. Not sure what your item is, but will try and find an answer for you. Back in those days other companies manufactured parts for different cars.

to add to the history about the Cole Automobile J.J. Cole went from building buggies to cars in 1909. Initially he built 4 and 6 cylinder cars, but in 1915 started building V8's. These big, powerful cars became known for their unusual names- "Brouette", "Sportosine", "Tourosine", "Aero-Volante", etc. President William H Taft owned one of these Automobiles as his first car. The last Coles were built in 1924. I am pretty sure your emblem is from the 1924 model.
