    strange bullet thingy

This was found at a site (A creek) where lots of civil war ammunition was found. It has the same shape, size and weight of a bullet, but it has a kind of iron casing on the outside. on the base, you can see the lead showing. Any help is appreciated! Thanks

Modern jacketed bullet, perhaps .45 or so depending on exact dimensions. Your last photo pretty much nailed the general ID with the lead core inside a jacket.

Shape makes me think .45 also, but need size measurements to be sure.
Due to the high price of ammunition there will be no warning shot.

The model 1911 that shoots that type of bullet has been around since ---- well ---- 1911, so your bullet could be 100 years old.
Due to the high price of ammunition there will be no warning shot.

I have found one in a very small civil war skirmish area also. It does appear about .45 caliber, but it is a ferrous jacket you can see it stuck to magnet. Also highly rusted, right in among single ringers and some spent henry rounds.Name: bullet1.jpe

The US made a lot of steel jacketed .45 and 30-06 during WW2, I'd imagine that's what you have

I collect military relics, mainly German and American, but interested in others as well, pre 1945 .. Always interested in adding to my collection
