Found at early 1800s old homestead. Brass or Copper

Not sure what this is. It is kinda heavy and no rust. Copper or brass maybe and still not sure what it is. That is a US quarter in the pics. Found at a old homesite dating back early 1800s. Any ideas?

Thanks guys! Anyway to tell how old it is? I know there was a house dating back to early 1800s there but don't want to use just that factor in dating since the land has been used up until late 1980s. I know NOTHING about horse tack. Thanks again. You all ROCK!

I'm no expert, but I'd say a very wide age range. Probably no way to nail it down. Cool find
