Tip to a walking stick? Has a hole for a screw to retain it. Could be a tip to protect a wood part or leg for anything from a foot stool or a milking stool to a small flag pole or a buggywhip handle.
America was founded by tough hell-raisers. Rugged citizens who evaded taxes, spoke strongly against tyranny, grew tobacco, brewed beer, distilled spirits, and smuggled weapons. And it will be saved by those same types of citizens.

Kas, what did you clean it with? I have a copper thingy that I cannot seem to get anywhere on. No matter what I do, it always looks like your "before" pics. Thanks - Noodle

Could it be something that went on the bottom of the leg of a table to finish it off and maybe protect it from scratching the floor?

    Electrolysis.

This is the site I used to make mine. Works great. Wouldn't suggest using it on valueable copper coins. Cleans silver fine.

Now that you've cleaned it, unless it's the camera angle, it looks like brass. If it is, then we're back to a tip to something such as a walking stick, etc.

I have seen pieces similar to this on harness sets.
    Good luck
