    Spring compressor?

A friend found this on his land near an old school house. Some kind of expander/compresser? About a foot long.

Valve removal tool. Push down on the tool the spring will go down releasing pressure on the valve, remove the (2) keepers and the valve will slide out of the head. Thanks for posting, marion

Not a valve spring compressor, your tool moves in an arc , it wouldn't work. Your tool is designed in such a way that when pressure is applied to the handles the business end spreads apart . The tool is obviously cast iron and wouldn't hold up to spring pressures. That being said, I believe you have a specialized tool for farm useage.

This seller thinks it is, but at the very least the part numbers will help. Vintage or Antique Cast Iron Valve Tool, marked 6852H & 6853H
Using those numbers there was one included in this auction (item 0067), that is described as one (although called a valve lifter): http://wrenchingnews.com/2016-york-auction/catalog.html

Here's a slightly different set I snagged out of my dad's garage after he passed away.

Nice one Icewing. In my earlier search I'd noted those as being for old flat head Fords (or at least that's what they were listed as being for).
