Could use some help ID'ing, I'm stumped

Hi all, dug this yesterday and cannot seem to figure out what it is. Not sure if it's a coin of some sort, a token or medallion, or an abnormally large sporting button. Leaning against a button due to the large size and completely smooth surface on the backside { no nubs or eyelets like buttons have}. Seems to be made of copper, much larger than a quarter, even much larger than a half dollar. Has a hunter with his two dogs standing over what appears to be their fresh killed deer or elk. Backside has no detail whatsoever, completely smooth, which is strange, given the amazing details on the front.

Very cool. I don’t suppose it would fit in bridle as a rosette...nor would horses be used for a hunt....but that the rosette was my first thought.

    From a pocket watch perhaps?
I may be seeing things, but I believe there is either a word or numbers on the back, just below and right of the center.

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

Starting at the 7 o'clock position at the border these eyes see the beginning of a word: MA.....
The diagonal mark on the 4 o'clock vector, half way between the center of the object and the rim appears to be an incursed (illegible) word.
Caveat: I failed the Rorschach Test so I don't hold myself accountable for this response.

I agree with Johnbrian. It looks just like a Rifle Butt Medallion. I used to have a rifle with one that was very similar, just not that old or high quality. Mine was probably just pressed brass.

Possibly a hunting association medallion. This one is Polish. The French ones look more like yours but appear to have St. Hubert on them. No cross on yours that I can see...

These buttons are on Etsy. Seller says mid 20th C. Your medallion is older.

This one is thin like a coin thickness. Being the backside looks as if there is nothing on it, I'm leaning toward this definitely being embedded in something
