I have no clue! Do You?

I found this in a early 1900's Ball Field. I don't think it is that old though. I am at a loss as to what it could be. The thin area has a "7" on the bottom edge. It appears to be brass. Rang up as an 86-88 at 4 inches on my AT Pro. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

And no it isn't one of those little twisty tarp hold downs.

Due to the high price of ammunition there will be no warning shot.

This got me thinking that you might be on the right track, no pun intended. Anyway I searched thru tons of photos and I cant find anything similar in the cleat photos. But it may very well be. I will continue to research this idea. Thanks

Being you found it in a ball field, could be a tooth of a field drag ? ... Looks like some kind of replaceable wear part to me.

I'm pretty sure it's a button off an older briefcase...you would push it or slide it and the locking mechanism would flip open....there was one one on each side.

All are good guesses. My first thought was a tailgate latch or car door button.

Thanks for all the responses. I have tried to follow up on each comment by searching the web. So far nothing is a definite match but I too am leaning towards a Cleat or some sort of latch part. It isn't like a pocket book latch. It is more heavy than those so I thinking a trunk or compartment maybe. Thanks for all of your help!

I think it may be a part of a silversmiths stake set or possibly from a shoemaker.
