    Electrical item of some sort?

Made of copper and has a few wire strands trapped inside the hole. It seems to have been attached to something made of fiberglass. The remnants are still under the nuts. The large center post has a hole down the center, but, not all the way through, is threaded, and has a lock nut. The small post is just a solid pin.

Not part of a battery terminal connector with fibers of wire of spacer?
Could be something to do with exhaust, smog control, asbestos...

I've seen a similar type clamp connector for electrical cables, but, not one that mounted on something like fiberglass (or asbestos) or had that extra post. Also, with this setup, the cables would be clamped by using a screwdriver, whereas, the others I've seen had a nut you tightened to clamp the cables.

Any idea of the application? What is the short post used for?

Looks like a battery post to me. The short post and the lock nut post offer two types/means of connecting the wiring. The fiberglass may be from the battery case?

It might be something from an electrical transformer like the kind on utility poles.Possibly one exploded from a lightning strike or an accident?

I think the small post is for a ground strap since it was bolted to fiberglass.

The small post is slick except for a screwdriver slot on top. I assumed that was to hold the post while you tighten the nut on the bottom. I see no way for anything to attach to it unless it has a clamp type connector. No evidence anything was ever attached to it. I'll try to get you more photos.
