    Help finding Dog Tag Owner

I found these dog tags, one stainless, one Sterling Silver, today while metal detecting the beach on the East Coast of Florida. Can someone help me locate the owner or the owners next of kin so I can return them? Are they WWII Dog Tags?

    Thanks!

I'm assuming the USCGR stands for United States Coast Guard Reserve. Don't know what time frame they are though

I just found the owner of a WW II dog tag by using the facebook group "Veteran Buddy Finder". They had the names of his sons and had contacted both of them within 13 minutes of my post. Fyrffytr1 has the link in his post above.

He died in 1958. Mary Lou Berlin signed for his headstone. Tried to search her but came up empty. Not sure if she was wife, mother, or sister.

He then explained to me that it was commonly believed that on a certain night of the year…

I wonder why one of them is sterling, maybe he purchased it himself?

Cool finds. These are from World War II and the guy was probably involved in fighting German U-boats in the Atlantic. There were U-boats all over the East coast in World War II.

Awesome find! Seeing that he was discharged in 46 and passed in 58, 12 years out of the service I’m wondering if maybe his wife, mother or sibling may had tossed the tags out to sea because maybe he wanted that.. Very cool find, I truly hope you find a family member to return them to, I would love to have an opportunity like that!

Thank you so much. Very interesting! This may be a dead end to family then.

I think Mary Lou was his wife - attached is the marriage announcement. And here social security death record shows she probably remarried (McDonald) and died in Nevada in 2003.

    Name: Mary Lou Ritter
    [Mary Lou Berlin]
    [Mary McDonald]
    Gender: Female
    Race: White
    Birth Date: 7 Nov 1926
    Birth Place: Cromwell Sem, Oklahoma
    [Cromwell, Oklahoma]
    Death Date: 18 Sep 2003
    Father: Otis E Ritter
    Mother: Bertha Cox
    SSN: 352206747
Notes: Jun 1943: Name listed as MARY LOU RITTER; Mar 1958: Name listed as MARY LOU BERLIN; Apr 1969: Name listed as MARY LOU MCDONALD; 27 Sep 2003: Name listed as MARY L MCDONALD

Also here is a copy what I think to be his father's obituary from 1979. He had a brother and a sister living at that time but I think both have since passed -- Curt Berlin possibly in 1986 and Mary Catherine Skidmore in 2002-03. But there may be nieces, nephews or even children out there. I haven't tried yet to go further.
