    ID help Please

Any Ideas on what this is and a possible time frame it would have been used in ? It looks like part of some type of wagon or cart hitch to a Horse or Ox , it looks hand forged and I cant quite find a good ID for it , It is from an area with gold and silver mining history and could even go back to the early or mid 1800s which would be really old in this area. I am thinking of preserving it just for fun but want to get an idea what it is first. The quarter is just there for size reference. Thanks for any help.

It is a hand forged wagon clevis, but I can't remember the proper name for it.

Looks to be the end off a double tree which is the part that attached to the horse harness.
