This thing is so weird...measures about 2.05 inches in length. It's very dense, I think it may be lead? I'm baffled...

Interesting! Looks like someone put pencil lead on a larger sinker - I see a 5 outlined, and the "Loop" at the end.

What was the location when found?

An old inn in Delaware with origins in the 1680's that was then used as a house for some time...vast estate.

I have a "Thing" for fishing lead as I find a lot -

The loop I refer to is the piece that arches off the main body

Someone made this, melting pencil lead onto the base piece for a reason or just messing around - I know NW fishing, commercial and homemade sinkers, but this has me stumped. Perhaps nothing to do with fishing -

Will watch this with interest - thanks for posting!

PS - I know how 8 oz sinkers sound on a ATP -

All types of fishing lead out there - here I find it mostly on beaches, campgrounds, potholes in rivers, mostly trout and salmon gear - once dug 18 homemade gill net sinkers, though the linen net was long gone.

You may find stuff we don't use - sinkers used in "trot lines" or other warm water gear.

Post a few, I'll give you my WAG - hope others chime in on this lead mystery. I know there's lead in batteries, but that's it.

PS - fishermen pay for lead to remelt - I sell mine on CL

A varied assortment for sure - I do see some white pencil lead (often turns white as it ages)

Lead is soft - wack a few of the oddballs - should flatten

It actually looks like a device called a plug knocker. An oval shaped piece of lead with a loop made into it. They were used to slide down a hung up fishing line to try to retrieve the lure.

it looks to me like a blob of lead that had been used to plug a hole in something and then later pried out with a screwdriver. I've seen chunks really similar to it on jobs where I had to pry lead out of the joints on old cast iron drain pipe

I collect military relics, mainly German and American, but interested in others as well, pre 1945 .. Always interested in adding to my collection
