    Bayonet?

Tnet member Nelscey found this item. He was having an issue posting, so I agreed to post the pictures for him. I saw the item yesterday, but dont know the difference between a bayonet and a pitchfork tine.

It was found in an area that has the correct history.

Here is what it might be, less the attachment collar.

That's cool Tom. I can't say one way or the other but I can definitely see what you mean.
Maybe someone who knows the specs will jump in.

Is the "blade" portion totally flat?

looks like a broken socket bayonet to me. but it's a bit short even accounting for not having the socket...

It is flattened, in other words, it’s wider then it is tall. Here is another picture.

If that is the case, I don't think it is a bayonet.

I think it could be an old lightning rod missing the bottom part.

    Just saw this...

Broken French Rev War Bayonet IMO... but would need closups.

    NOT lighting spike... for sure.

They were copper, brass or bronze.

Is the "blade" on this dimensional (round, etc.) or is it flat?
