What Kind of Bell is This?

Trying to help my little sister out. She recently took her 10 year old boy out detecting and found this cool bell along a stream. The area was mined from the 1850's - 1880's, there was as an old schoolhouse somewhere nearby, and they use to have cattle drives through the area from the 1880's - 1920's. Otherwise it is a mystery as to what this bell would be doing out in the middle of the forest along a stream. It appears to be hand forged. Any idea on what type of bell it may be and the possible age of the bell would be much appreciated. My 10 year old nephew may be hooked on detecting now after finding something so cool.

Tony, none that we can see yet. It has got some crud built up on it so I think it is going into the electrolysis bath.
