Stamped letters LM - brass cap, button or shell casing?

Found on a treasure coast beach. Does not stick to magnet, looks like oxidized brass. Clearly marked LM and X. 16th of an inch marks on a tape measure. Width about 9/16".

Looks to be a scale weight.
The 'X' likely identifies the weight, probably 10ozs.

Well if that little thing weighs 10oz then its probably plutonium.

It is very light, the ruffled brass seen from the marked side looks like it came off or was attached to something. Thanks for all the comments guys.

Some type of small cap or plug with the LMX facing out. The dents around the edge were caused by it being pried loose with a screwdriver.

    By the way, great images!

That's what I thought too, this morning I was in contact with Guy Hildebrand who collects and restores all types of old ammo. He felt it was not a cartridge. The markings were just so familiar to me for some reason. I like the pried off comment and shipping seal. I'll go that way for a while. Thanks all!

Maybe its just the primer part of a large caliber cartridge

But if it is a primer, would they stamp the inside with LM X

Yes you are right, don't think the insides would get a mark, who would see it? Thank you

Looks like the bottom end of a casing with the dent in the middle is where the firing pin hit the primer. Center fire rifle casing.
