    ????? Large copper currency??????

Hunted our secret spot again...the house was built in 1701 but we are finding items that date back even earlier. We detected very close to the river and came upon what looked like decking or a dock but so old it was wooden pegged together. The only metal hit was this piece of copper. There seems to be a letter z on it but thatís about all we could make out. I cleaned it a little too good maybe.

    Any thoughts??

Yeah my guess would be some kind of trade copper. I seen pieces found in the Midwest smaller than that and rolled like cones or into a cylindrical shape then sometimes smashed flat to appear coin like. Super cool. Glad I kept the one I personally found as I thought it was trash for the longest time only to meet an older fella who had a case full of various native trade artifacts.

No problem, it is just a guess though! Hopefully some body has more information for you. It’s much larger than pieces I’ve seen from around here....

There seems to be some type of engraving or letters but very hard to see. What you can see are the marks from where it was pressed or smashed flat. It's just weird.
